One day trek to Fort ‘Peth / Kothaligad’ on 6^th July 2013

                After amazing thrilling trek to fort Harihar, we at ‘Nisarg Trust’ invite you to a small yet beautiful one day trek to ‘Kothaligad / Peth’ on 6^th July 2013.

Minutiae:

Height: 3100ft (MSL)

Grade: Simple-Medium

Time: 2:30 hrs from base

Location: Karjat range

                ‘Kothaligad’ is famously known as ‘Peth’ fort as Peth village is situated at its base. It is located to the south of Siddhagad, Tungi, Padargad and Bhimashankar range, to the east of Matheran range. It was strategically and geographically very important fort in the past.

                On reaching the top of the fort, we see few caves carved in a huge rock. The first one is the cave of Goddess, besides which is a water cistern and the last one is the specious Bhairoba cave. A flat floor and well-sculpted pillars are specialty of the cave. Along the Bhairoba cave, steps are carved superbly leading to the pinnacle.

Four –Five potholes and some cannon balls are scattered on the top of the fort. On a clear day you see Padargad, Bhimashankar hills, Nagfani, Tungi, Siddhagad to the north, Malanggad, Chanderi, Prabalgad and Matheran on the west side, Rajmachi and Dhak to the south west direction.

Itinerary:

Meeting Point: Platform 1, CST end, Neral Railway Station at 7.30 AM

Local timing is given below:

CST: 5:18 AM

Dadar: 5:36 hrs

Kurla: 5:47 hrs

Thane: 6:14 hrs

Dombivali: 6:36 hrs

Kalyan: 6:46 hrs

Badlapur: 7:06 hrs

Neral: 7:24 hrs

Please do carry your return tickets for Neral.

7:45 am: Move to base village by 6 sitters.

9:00 am: At the base, start trek to Peth village

11:30 am: At cave, see the caves, Bhairoba temple amazingly rock carved water cistern and move to top

12:30 pm: At the top, Enroute we will see Magarkot Darwaja.

Explore fort and start descend to the cave

1:30 pm: Back to cave, Have lunch and rest for a while

2:30 pm: Start descending

4:30 pm: At the base, take 6 sitters and move to Neral station.

6:00 pm: Neral Station

Cost: 250/-

Includes transport from Neral to Neral.

A Water Bottle (~2 litres is a must)

Personal medicines if u require usually (Optional)
Personal basic medical kit (Containing an antiseptic, few bandages, personal medications if any, Antibiotics for stomach infection)
A haversack to put all these things.
