you for a thrilling one day trek to Kalavantin durg on 14th July
2013
Minutiae:
Height: 2320 ft (Above MSL)
Grade: Medium
Time: 2:30 hrs from base
Location: Panvel region.
Kalavantin
durg is situated at the North East side of Panvel near Mumbai-Pune highway. If
you see a ‘V’ shaped valley from expressway, left one is Kalavantin durg and right
one is massive Prabalgad. If seen from Matheran, Left one is Prabalgad and
right one is Kalavantin. Superbly carved steps in a rock in zig-zag way is the
main attraction of this trek. Top of Kalavantin is very small but offers an
awesome panoramic view of Chanderi, Mhaismal, Matheran, Irshal, Tahuli,
Malanggad, Manikgad, Karnala etc. It was used as a watchtower in the past.

Meeting Point: Karjat Railway
Station
Sunday 14th July 2013
Karjat local timings as given below:
CST: 05:18 AM
Dadar: 5:36
Ghatkopar: 5:53
Thane: 6:14
Dombivali: 6:36
Kalyan: 6:46
Badlapur: 7:06
Karjat: 7:40
Please do carry your return
tickets for Karjat.
8:00 am: Move to base village ‘Thakurwadi’ by public
transport.
9:30 am: At the base. Have breakfast and start trek
towards Prabal machi.
12:00 pm: At Prabal machi. Rest for a while.
1:30 pm: Atop Kalavantin Durg. Enjoy panoramic view (provided
it’s not foggy)
2:00 pm: Start descending
4 pm: At the base. Start return journey to Karjat
6:00 pm: At Karjat station
Return journey to Mumbai by 6:23 or 6:41 PM local from
Karjat.
Estimated Expenditure is about 350/-
This includes transportation charges from Karjat to
Karjat, Ready to eat Breakfast and Lunch.

ReplyDeleteMachi Prabal is an ancient and beautiful village. It is situated half-way up a mountain (such a plateau or ledge is called a "machi" in Marathi) at the base of the fort Prabalgad. Because of the two forts Prabalgad and Kalavantin and the natural beauty of the surrounding regions, many visitors and fort-enthusiasts are attracted to this place.
To fully explore this area, you will need at least two days. However, many visitors have had some difficulty in finding food and lodging near this village. Some visitors would return home after one day tour and others would spend the night sleeping outdoors on the grass and eating whatever they could bring or manage to obtain. It is also hard for ladies and children to stay here comfortably.
My name is Nilesh Bhutambre (I am called "Bhau" by those close to me, especially by everyone in my village). I’m the only “Adivasi" boy to graduate from my village. One day, while i was searching for information about my village and the fort of Kalavantin Durg and Prabalgad, i saw that there are lot of tourists who visit this fort and report on their blog or website. Some of these tourists motioned that there is no facility available for food or accommodation. That is when I decided to provide these facilities to Prabalgad and Kalavantin Durg tourists. My Graduation and Diploma in Programming Language helped me make web page to spread the word about my idea and services.

Nice trip.Thanks for sharing your trip experience. Shooting up as an important industrial hub after the establishment of the Bhilai Steel Plant as well, Durg stands as one of the largest cities of the state today.
